mini LOK ficlets #1: avatar state of mind
I was on a bus for an obscene amount of time today, so instead of sleeping, I leaned my head against the window as the landscape slipped by and came up with some pretty ridiculous LOK fanficlet concepts.
1a. AU. Tenzin, Mr. Spiritual, grew up believing that bending was a privilege, not a right, and that only the most worthy should be able to keep their bending powers. He learns the technique, in secret, without his father’s knowledge; and after having lost his patience with the irresponsible, spiritually empty, and reckless benders of Republic City, he begins to strip those benders he deems unworthy of their powers, ‘equalizing’ society and recruiting true believers… and then Korra shows up and suddenly ‘Amon’ has the Avatar living under his roof, with his family.
1b. The spirits feel threatened by the rise of technology, industry, and the potential damage to the natural world, so they hijack Korra’s body, take over control of the Avatar state, and begin to raze Republic City to the ground. To them, justice and vengeance are the same thing, and mercy is the invention of daydreaming monks who could only dare to understand the logic of spirits. But Korra comes to in the middle of a ruined, deserted city, in a street whose asphalt is rippled with the force of impact, surrounded by rubble and ruptured pipes and clouds of smoke flooding through the streets and into the sky, feeling dizzy and lost and cold as she bleeds out. And Asami is standing there, her stone-cold face streaked with dirt and the ferocious heated blush of the same determination she used to challenge her father. With impeccable, unwavering accuracy, she has forced herself to demonstrate the power of Future Industries’ newest development - the handheld firearm. Korra heaves and gasps for breath and lifts a hand, slick with a deep redness that slides down her wrist, and then Asami is there, holding it, tightly, because she wants to hold onto Korra, and let go of what she has done.
