Really though, when I stop to think about it, Watership Down is the book I always wanted to write and the one that, probably, subtly, ultimately most influenced the way I want to write because of how beautifully crafted it is, and how richly and precisely Adams uses the language, and how deeply he delves into this world he created, a space of seemingly minute narrative scope that he stretches and expands into this boundless, sublime epic of life and death focused on rabbits, rabbits! who are just human enough that you feel for them and need them to succeed, to survive, to go home to their warren at night and snuggle up all warm. And man, I just really, really love this book, I do.
