buses and Metro trains are some of the best to people-watch. everyone is trying to fit into their own little world not cross each others physical/emotional space.
It’s true, you see some of the most interesting people on trains… and public transportation etiquette is different everywhere you go. The way people react to each other when they’re pressed together in a crowded space says so much about a culture, it really is fascinating.
but my favorite place to people-watch ever was at the Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo. it’s the busiest intersection in the world - the crossing light is a full minute long and at least a thousand people cross on each light… I sat in the Starbucks that overlooks the crossing for two straight hours, just watching.
