OK fun fact I was once in a romantic drama that played out exactly like the one in LoK, where I was basically the Asami to a Mako and a Korra

down to the fun part where she told him that she liked him while we were dating and where I was way more in love with him than he was with me. skip along several months and we break up, another half a year and they get together. (and I harbored some ridiculously high levels of resentment, I refused to acknowledge him for a solid 8 months)

so the love triangle inspires me with intense Doylistic annoyance (why did they write that) but nothing other than Watsonian sympathy for all players involved, because shit cuts deep on all counts. Everyone gets scared and everyone gets embittered and everyone gets hurt (not just achy-breaky heartbreak hurt, but long Sunday afternoons sobbing alone on the couch wondering what went wrong as I slipped into a deep depression from which I am mostly recovered hurt)

so that’s the story of how I projected my personal life onto the characters, the intersection of which then informed my interpretation of the narrative
